]]> Hello parents and curious students. The theme for this year’s Summer Program has finally been unveiled: Self-Learning AI! A self-learning AI, otherwise known as an unsupervised neural network, is an AI that can teach itself to do a task. For example, an unsupervised AI can teach itself to play an arcade game. The more the AI plays or “trains”, the smarter the AI will become. Eventually, the AI will become unbeatable. As a second example, an unsupervised AI can teach itself the laws of physics. Once an AI learns physics, it can predict the state of a physical system for any given time step. In other words, this AI will be able to see into the future! Wow!! Note that while other “solvers” can also look into the future, an AI can do this task with unprecedented speed.

While the main theme of this year’s Summer Program is the unsupervised neural network, we will also cover supervised neural networks, some applied mathematics, and a bit of data science. ]]> Sign Up for The Curio Cat Summer Program!

Enrollment for the Student Research Academy’s 2022 Summer Program is now OPEN! Due to demand, this year’s Summer Program will have two sessions:

  • Summer Program, Session A: June 11, 2022 – July 18, 2022
  • Summer Program, Session B: July 23, 2022 – August 29, 2022

During the Summer Program, we teach high school students how to conduct their own independent research projects. Our students have had amazing success with their projects, including placing at prestigious science fair competitions and publishing in reputable journals. Here are a few recent examples:

  • 2022 Regeneron Science Talent Search – Top 300 Finalist
  • 2021 Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) – 4th Place in Engineering Mechanics
  • 2021 Texas Junior Academy of Science (TJAS) – 2nd Place
  • 2021 MIT Research Science Institute (RSI) – accepted!
  • 2020 Sigma Xi Student Research Conference High School Division Award for Engineering
  • 2020 Spellman High Voltage Clean Tech Competition – Finalist
  • 2021 Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Power and Energy Society – published!
  • 2021 Society of Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) – published!
  • 2020 Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) MIT Undergraduate Research Technology Conference – published!

During our 6-week Summer Program, students will study Deep Learning Neural Networks (i.e., Artificial Intelligence), Data Science, Applied Mathematics, Arduino Design and Fabrication, and more. Additionally, every student receives one-on-one tutoring through the completion of a research project.

During the 6-week period, classes will take place over Zoom according to the following schedule:

  • Monday – Friday, 5 PM PST – 8 PM PST: ad hoc one-on-one or small group tutoring with an expert. Students will receive individualized attention and project assistance.
  • Saturday, 1 PM PST – 4 PM PST: Lecture
  • Sunday, 1 PM PST – 4 PM PST: Lecture
